The ACT Heritage Council decided aginst accepting Flynn’s nomination for listing on the ACT Heritage Register. The decision was made in a ameeting on 24 June, 2010. The ACT Heritage Unit advised the John Flynn Community Group in a letter written on 28 June (4 days later). The Flynn P&C has not been formally notified.
The ACT Government’s announcement to relocate two existing childcare centres to the Flynn Primary School ignores the viable solution proposed by the Flynn community; breaches promises made by government; and will not in itself create a significant number of new childcare places. The group is also concerned that the extent of structural changes need for such a large centre of 110 places in total will damage the heritage value of the building.
