Prominent architectural, heritage and cultural organisations have supported a heritage nomination for the Flynn Primary School and grounds. The application was formally accepted by the ACT Heritage Council in April 2007, and it was the first step towards heritage listing of Flynn Primary School, Preschool, health centre and grounds.
The John Flynn Community Group has submitted a comprehensive application for Flynn Primary School to be added to the ACT Heritage Register.

The ACT Government has admitted to removing a memorial plaque and concreting over the Flynn name on a National Memorial celebrating the centenary of the birth of the Reverend John Flynn, founder of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Apparently this is the first time a government has desecrated a National Memorial.
Education Minister, Andrew Barr must now return the John Flynn Memorial plaque and restore the entire Memorial promptly or open himself to possible criminal prosecution following revelations in the Canberra Times today that the memorial is a Commonwealth asset.
