Report from Flynn at BCC

The Belconnen Community Council Forum heard the John Flynn Community Group’s proposal for Flynn tonight. The idea of reconnecting the community through a day and night multi-use community centre with Baringa Childcare and a small community school was applauded with many comments of support and encouragement from the floor

The centre also includes an accessible, multi-use community spaces to re-open the resource centre, the hall, and the community room to the public for casual and ‘drop-in’ use again.

There were more than 50 people (many not from Flynn), and the response was overwhelmingly positive. At the end of the evening, the proposal was applauded by all in the room for its quality and vision.

Enrico Taglietti was present to answer questions about the heritage of the site, and he made the point that Latham-Flynn-Giralang all form a series, as a ‘trilogy’ and all three should be heritage listed together. Losing any one of the three sites would, in his opinion, detract from the heritage value of the other two.

Also in attendance were the Greens Meredith Hunter and her advisor Louise, Liberals Alastair Coe and Vicki Dunne, Labor’s Mary Porter and her partner (and Jon Stanhope’s media advisor) Ian deLandelles.
