The John Flynn Community Group has submitted a comprehensive application for Flynn Primary School to be added to the ACT Heritage Register.
The school was designed by award-winning architect Enrico Taglietti. The buildings are significant because the school is a landmark design for open planning in schools and because they are intact.
Heritage nomination isn’t an easy process, and it involves the following steps:
- the ACT Heritage Council asseseses the application and decides whether to accept it or not
- if the application is accepted, then the school has been nominated for heritage listing
- the ACT Heritage Council then assesses the nomination.
If the nomination is successul, the Flynn school building and grounds will then be on the interim Heritage register for the duration of a public consultation process. At the end of that, and provided there have been no substantive appelas or objections, then Flynn will have full heritage listing.
