Re-opening schools was ”always a possibility”

Katy Gallagher today stated to the Canberra Times that re-opening schools was ”always a possibility” but the former school buildings would be extensively refurbished.

Ms Gallagher made the announcement while issuing consultant GHD’s report which found most people strongly supported retaining the open space surrounding the former schools and were against the sites being developed for medium or high-density housing. See the Canberra Times.

The Liberals and the Community Alliance Party were reported as saying that these sites should be retained so they can be used as schools if and when the demographics change.

Note that Mt Neighbour and Rivett schools are to be demolished and sold, and parts of other sites are also to become housing.
