On Friday 1 May, the Flynn P&C and the John Flynn Community Group gave evidence to the Assembly Inquiry into school closures. Transcripts are now available.

The Inquiry website. In total there were 76 submission, which is rumoured to be a very high number for an Assembly Inquiry.

The Flynn Primary School Parents and Citizens Association today cautiously welcomed news of an Inquiry into school closures, stressing that the Inquiry needs to fully examine the information and processes that led to decisions to close schools.

Inquiry will look into reopening shut schools

The ACT Legislative Assembly will today announce an inquiry into the Government’s decision to close 23 schools across Canberra. The Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs will review the Government’s controversial Towards 2020 policy that prompted the mass closures in the 2006-07 budget.

League tables used in ACT school closures

According to an article on the Save our Schools website, there is strong evidence that the results from student literacy and numeracy testing, were used in the 2006 school closures.
